STAAR — the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness — is the state-mandated testing program for students in grades 3 through 12. In elementary and middle school, assessments are designed to evaluate progress and to make sure youngsters are meeting grade-level expectations. In high school, STAAR End of Course (EOC) tests measure whether or not students are on track for graduation and ready to pursue college, workforce training, and careers successfully. Five high school EOCS — in Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology, and U.S. History — must be passed before the student can graduate.
 
 

  • Texas Education Agency Student Assessment

    The TEA has redesigned student report cards and revised the way it labels how your student performed on the STAAR tests in grades 3-12.

  • Elementary School

    The STAAR assessments in grades 3-5 focus on content taught during the current academic year rather than knowledge and skills learned over multiple years.

  • Middle School

    The STAAR assessments in grades 6 through 8 focuses on content taught during the current year rather than knowledge and skills learned over multiple years.

     

  • High School

    The STAAR EOC (End-of-Course) assessments test high school students’ mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for a given course and determine college and career readiness.

     

  • Special Populations

    The STAAR is available in a variety of formats to serve students who are in the special education program or who are English language learners (ELL).
